My family’s standard travel practice is to take a stretch break every 2hrs plus a lunch and/or dinner stop even without the dog.
I didnt realize some dogs wont “go” on leash. I tried conditioning my first dog to go on cue but it never took after over a year so i gave up i will check out the episode for my new dog since i like the idea
For my old dog, I rented an air bnb type lodging that had one floor, one step entry to make it easy on her. Planned a full day in a great park. Brought her bed, basic items, meds. No crate. We went on the ferry to get there, but because she cant do the steps anymore, we stayed in my vehicle where she was comfortable. She was happy just to stick her head out the window to say hi to passing folks. She is very good and just slept in the room while I went to my evening conference. The 230 acre park was definitely the best.
7 nights on the road, moving 2400 miles. Old doggo. 80 lbs, age 14. Still doing ok! 6 hrs max driving a day., mostly 5 hours a day. One 30 min stop. 2 nights VRBO, can’t afford more nights. Have the car fan, shade screens, an ice pack for his body if he wants it. Food in cooler. have the sheet for bed, have the dog bed he will lay in, in hack of SUV, plus seat belt. He requires a padded metal ottoman to get out of SUV, so that’s the most challenging thing to load in and out. Will be v glad when we are through this journey.
Thank you very much. This was a great video.
